Privacy Policy
The short version
sublingo translates subtitles. To do that, subtitle text from the video you're watching is sent to our servers for translation, and if you create an account we store your email and plan. We don't run ads, we don't sell your data, and we don't collect your browsing history. Live-audio captioning streams audio directly to a speech-to-text provider using your own API key — we never receive or store audio.
What we collect and why
Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and profile picture through our authentication provider (Supabase). We store your email and your plan (free trial, subscription, or one-time license) so your purchase follows your account.
Subtitle content. When you translate a video, the extension sends that video's subtitle text (and the video's title, for translation context) to our server, which passes it to an AI translation provider and returns the translation. Completed translations are cached — locally in your browser, and briefly on our servers — so re-watching doesn't re-translate.
Usage counts. To enforce plan limits (for example, the 10-video free trial), we count how many distinct videos an account or, for signed-out users, an IP address has translated. These counts are stored as hashed identifiers, not as a viewing history.
Payment information. Payments are processed by PayPro Global as merchant of record. We receive your email and order details (product, order id); we never see or store card numbers. PayPro's own privacy policy applies to the checkout.
Live audio (optional). The live-captioning feature streams tab audio from your browser to Soniox, a real-time speech-to-text service, using an API key that you provide and control. The audio is transcribed in real time and is not recorded or stored by us; we never receive it.
Technical data. Our servers keep standard short-lived logs (including IP addresses) for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and debugging. The sublingo.app website itself sets no analytics or tracking cookies (see the Cookie Policy).
Stored in your browser. Your settings, subtitle caches, saved API keys, and trial state live in your browser's extension storage on your device. Removing the extension removes them.
What we never do
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We do not show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We do not collect your browsing history — the extension activates only on supported video pages, only to translate.
- We do not use your data for anything unrelated to providing subtitle translation.
Who processes data for us
We use a small set of service providers, each only for its role: Supabase (authentication and account database), OpenAI and Microsoft Azure (translation of subtitle text), Soniox (live speech-to-text, with your own key), PayPro Global (payments, as merchant of record), and our hosting providers. Subtitle text sent for translation is processed under those providers' API terms, which do not permit using it to train their models.
Retention
Account data is kept while your account exists. Server-side translation caches expire within about 30 days. Server logs are kept briefly for security and debugging. Local data stays on your device until you clear it or remove the extension.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these — including full account deletion — email support@sublingo.app from the address on your account and we'll act on it promptly.
Children
sublingo is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update this page and change the effective date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
